“I like to sew as much as I can remember,” says Ruth Watkin. “One of the first memories of the sewing machine was how my little mother convinced me that the machine works by magic (I did not know about the pedal under the table ). As soon as I figured out how it really works, I started sewing clothes for the doll, then for my little sister, and then clothes for myself, and since then I haven’t stopped. "
Ruth was educated in theater design at the University of Nottingham, and then trained for two years at the Custom Costume Company, working as a student in costume design. It was there, according to Ruth, she learned many of the professional tricks and techniques necessary, including for creating historical costumes.
Now Ruth works as a "free artist", making costumes for theaters and taking individual orders. “I create all kinds of outfits and suits for my clients, everything they can imagine,” she says. Ruth's costumes are also sent to museums and private collections as exhibits and works of tailor's art.
