For designer Elena Suprun, the Burda magazine of the 80s became a window to another world, so she gladly recalls the models of those years ...
Coat for all timeElena Suprun
It was not by chance that Elena decided to present precisely this model in our project, because she had once sewed such a coat of the color of coffee with milk herself.
What would you like to change in it?
By and large, nothing. Now it has become relevant again, because fashion has returned to normal. I really like his voluminous sleeves, a wide collar, which I tailored a little differently and used as a hood. You can wear this coat without a belt, then it resembles a mantle. It looks very impressive in motion.Coat sketch from Elena Suprun
I hardly use buttons and would suggest buttons covered with silk. Instead of stitching around the edge I would make a flare - this will give things a more respectable appearance. You can also remove the lapels and choose a more interesting lining, such as contrasting. You can still slightly raise the raglan line, make it not so deep, although now the raglan is in trend. Any plastic woolen fabric is suitable for a coat to show the beauty of the back. The back gate can be made a little longer, add a small recess or even a clasp, as on the hood. These are simple design decisions for those who use the magazine Burda.
Have you actively used it yourself?
At first I bought issues in a foreign language in a second-hand bookstore. The main gift for me was a cut that fit perfectly. At that time, I sewed for clients, I did not know how to design yet, and Burda patterns just saved me, they were unusually good. The magazine has provided tremendous assistance in my development as an artist and designer. How do you feel about sewing now?
This is a great work. I love beautiful things, so that they are perfectly sewn from the inside: a minimum of overlock seams, a slanting trim, a fluff around the edge - a real couture. We leave ten percent of success to the designer, and the rest depends on who sews.Elena Suprun's collections are always distinguished by an exquisite cut
